Week 31 Reflection

This week we looked at lasers and lights. We wanted to know how and why we see colors. We had 3 main colors: Red, Blue and Green. We tried mixed the colors together and when we mixed Red and Green we Yellow, when we mixed Blue and Red we got Magenta and when we mixed Blue and Green we got Cyan. There are many frequencies of colors that we found. Some were high, some were low, some were in the middle. So basically we looked at colors to find wavelengths and frequencies

Week 30

This week, we went outside a lot. We wanted to find frequency and wavelengths of wooden blocks. We also went on the football field and did it as a group. We used metronomes to help us keep a consistent beat. We did a short assessment on Friday and it was based on what we did all that week. Frequency is pretty fun to learn cause there are different things you can do to find the frequency

Week 25

We had cardboard bout races and a lot of the boats sank really easy. Some factors are that it did not have enough layers on it. The boats that worked out the best had 2 layers. Another factor is the weight of each person in the boat. If one guy is heavier then that side is gonna sink. You had to build your boat around your rowers. Last factor is the boat was not symmetrical. Some boats had more stuff on one side of the boat which made it easier to sink on that side. But some boats did not sink. Those boats didn't sink because they used there minds and thought what would be more stable in the water. 2 layers and long boats worked out the best. The lowest center of mass is the most stable. The groups could use this to determine how to build their boats and where to place themselves in the boats. Our boat did very well. We made it there and back and when we took it out of the water it easily could of went 10 more races. It was that stable. We really didn't have any problems except for is running into the barrier thing. The best rowing technique would be one person row on one side and the other person row on the other side. You keep the boat balanced and you get the most speed. What my group and I do differently? Probably plan it out more. We did very well with the construction of the boat. I would not change a lot.

Week 21

This week in physics we came back from a break. We did a little experiment on Monday. We were asked to think of 3 things that we hate about school and 3 things we liked about school. Most of us said a good thing about school I'd being with friends. Most of us said that we don't like homework, that's why we hate school. But we also said we like to be with out friends out of school. So I guess without school we would not have a social life. We wouldn't of had the same friends we had if we did have school. We also took a look at magnets and how they attract. We took a look at how the sun, earth and moon relate. The sun is not in the middle, the earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the sun. Why does the moon look like it's orbiting the sun. The moon orbits the sun because the moon doesn't really go around the earth. It moves faster to get in front of the earth so it looks like it orbits the earth but really it orbits the sun. We took an assessment today, went pretty well. I liked how it had a voice to read the question and that it was on a mobile device.

Week 18

Last week, we learned about centripetal force. This means, a force in the middle. This is what keeps an object going around in a circle. We also did white boards. We had to do 5 times, graph and make a table of those 5 radius and velocity. We also took a assessment. The assessment was pretty easy. This concept of centripetal force is pretty easy and straight forward. This unit is gonna be pretty good for me and hopefully everyone else.

Week 17

This week we did some experiments to show what objects do when going vertically and horizontally. We tested horizontally on the roof by measuring the distance a rocket would go. Back in the class room we took a look at if we tree a ball horizontally and then dropped the other ball vertically, would they hit at the same time. We did this multiple times and it did. This happened because of inertia. When we let go of the balls at the same time, the hit the floor at the same time. Both had same weight and size. Then we tried the different weight and different size and it still hit at the same time. We also tried distance. The did not change it either. We also got ready for our exams this coming week. We took an assessment as a class so we could fully understand what was going on. This helped out a lot.

Week 15

2 weeks ago we had a project that we presented. Mouse-Trap Cars. The goal was to make it go at least 3 meters. Most of use exceeded this. My car had some problems along the way. My biggest problem were the wheels. I had a hard time alining them correctly so they wouldn't curve and also keeping them on. But in the end this project turned out to be pretty good for me. My car went about 5 meters.
